Block Mounted Prints

Block Mounted Enlargements are a great way to display d??cor prints in your home or office. Block mounting gives you a clean modern look and offers more durability as it is less prone to damage than canvas. The image is mounted on a solid 9mm MDF board with your choice of gloss or matte laminate. The edges are painted black (unless stated otherwise) with a bevel or flush cut edge to add depth to the image. We print with premium archival inks on photographic paper.

Q.

What resolution camera do I need to produce a good quality block mounted enlargement?

A.

Bigger is better! The larger the image the larger the file size required. A 4 megapixel camera is the MINIMUM suggested. The camera should be set on the largest possible setting to produce the largest file. It is also recommended the ISO setting be 400 or lower.

What is the best file size?

A.

See the chart below. Select the print size and look to be in the green area. You can check the file size on your computer under ???properties??? in the file menu.

 

File sizes for print sizes (Bigger is better! Biggest is EVEN better!)

Even with the biggest file the results are dependent on the optical quality of the lens, correct focus, correct exposure, even camera shake. We can check and indicate the file quality for you, no problem!

GREEN is good, best quality

YELLOW is ok, but larger file recommended

RED is generally unacceptable, NOT RECOMMENDED AT ALL

Will the enlargement print exactly match the original print?

A.

The technologies differ and there will be differences, but the results will be close.

How is the price calculated?

A.

Price is calculated on the final print size and the materials used.

How long does it take for the order to be completed?

A.

Ten to fourteen days is normal. It can be quicker, although it may cost a little more for a faster service. Prior to Christmas it will be longer. Remember there are four processes involved, printing, laminating, mounting and finishing. Please allow a generous time frame. We normally phone you on completion.

What handling precautions should I take?

A.

The laminated print surface can be wiped with a slightly damp cloth (NO ABRASIVES). Excess moisture on the black edge will cause the MDF board to swell marring the finish. This is not repairable.

Where should I display my block mounted enlargement?

A.

Out of direct sunlight on the wall, preferably north facing. Keep it dry, away from moisture.

Are hooks and string provided?

A.

The block mounted print comes with string attached for hanging. Hooks can be purchased from us or any hardware store which will provide a wide range of attachments to suit your needs.

Can I order a block mounted print via email?

A.

Yes! However, sending large files can be slow and irksome if you don???t have broadband, consider mailing a CD instead. Pre-Payment is required before the order is commenced.

 

Q.

 

Can you print sizes other than those listed?

A.

Yes! Calculate the size of the image you would like and round up to the nearest measurement.
